How to make Baked Masala Khichdi

It can be changed easily to fit dietary needs. It is simple to make and delicious to eat.
So here is a homemade recipe for masala khichdi with lots of vegetables. This recipe is very nutritious because it contains rice, dals, vegetables, curd and maybe sprouts. Means it's full of fibres, calcium, protein and vitamins. So, enjoy tasty khichdi recipe this winter.





Preparation time - 15 minutes
Cooking time 25 minutes
Serves - 4 people

Ingredients to make Baked Masala Khichdi:

1 cup rice - basmati
1/2 cup mix dal - toor dal, mung dal, gram dal
2 tablespoon ghee
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
2 dry red chilli
1 teaspoon green chilli paste
1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
1/8 cup chopped onion
1/8 cup chopped potatoes
1/8 cup chopped french beans
1/8 cup chopped green peas
1/8 cup chopped carrot
1 table red chilli powder
1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon garam masalo
1 cup curd
2 1/2 cup water
2 onion slices fried
Salt to taste


For garnishing:


Fried onion


To serve with:

Method to make Baked Masala Khichdi:
  • Wash rice and dal. Soak for 15 minutes.
  • In a pressure cooker heat ghee and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. When they crackle asafoetida and dry red chilli. Now  add chilli, ginger and garlic paste.
  • Cook for 1 minutes and then add soaked rice, dal and chopped vegetables. 
  • Mix properly. Now add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder. Mix well.
  • Add water and pressure cooks for 2 whistles. Let it cool at room temp.
  • Transfer khichdi in a microwave proof baking tray and spread whipped curd over it. Spread fried onion slices over it and grill it for 5 minutes in a microwave.
  • Hot and healthy Baked Masala Khichdi is ready to serve.
  • Serve it with masala curd.
Tips to make Baked Masala Khichdi more healthy:
  • Sprouts can be used instead of mix dals.
