Mango is also known as aam, keri and manga also. Mango is known as king fruit in India. Mangoes were originated in the foothills of India and Burma during 4000BC. 40% to 50% of these trees still grow in India and South-east Asia. Now there are more than 1000 verities of mangoes in all over world. Mango is exotic fruit belongs to the family of Anacardiaceae. 



Mango is popular in all ages. When they are row they are always green. But when they are ripe they may be of yellow, orange, red or green in colour. There is a single, flat and oblong seed at the juicy yellow or orange pulp. People love the sweet smell of even unpeeled mango. One can chop,great, slice or strip mango. 

In India Aam rus -mango puree from mango is most popular. Even juice, shake, pudding, desert, custard, lussi and some times curries can be made from ripe mango. In India row mangoes are mostly used for making pickle. They are sour in taste. Always purchase mango with firm skin and without black spots. Never buy over ripe mango. If they are properly ripe store in refrigerator for 10 to 12 days. And if they are not properly ripe store them at room temperature covered.
